About

Development of My Way Code ...

Soni Cox has been innovating and developing the My Way Code process since 2015. As an experienced and BACP accredited Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor with over 15 years experience, Soni has fine tuned the process during this time through research, community co-development work and adapting for a children's program as well as her continuing therapy practice.

During her therapeutic work, she identified some common questions about client's health and wellbeing, their relationships and who they have to support them were great foundations for understanding how they could make the changes they sought help for.

Knowing that mental health services are in crisis and thresholds becoming hard to qualify for help;  she wanted to bring easy to understand, engaging and fun resources within an aspirational and progressive metaphor to people to help them navigate the inevitable ups and downs life.

Why we must help

Mental health problems affect about 84 million people across EU countries - 1 in 6 europeans

Mental illness will cost the global economy US $16 trillion by 2030. The economic cost is primarily due to early onset of mental illness and lost productivity, with an estimated 12 billion working days lost due to mental illness every year. (4)

In 2015, the overall costs related to mental ill-health are estimated to have exceeded 4% of GDP across the 28 EU (pre-Brexit) countries. This equates to more than EUR 600 billion (2)

1 study showed that for every $1 spent on wellness benefits employees recouped between $1.40 and $4.60 in avoided medical costs and productivity losses*

Close to 800,000 people die by suicide every year, which is one person every 40 seconds. For each adult who died by suicide there may have been more than 20 others attempting suicide. In the UK, 75% of deaths by suicide are men. (1)

1 in 5 Rates of emotional disorders were higher in children of parents who showed signs of a common mental disorder (17.5%). (3)

Increase in need for remote workforce support

ORCHA' S DIGITAL & MENTAL HEALTH RECOVERY ACTION PLANS REPORT* shows the numbers of people in the UK searching for mental health apps increase by over 200% during lockdown, showing a clear appetite for psychological mHealth solutions.

Working from home has lead to more people needing to self manage stress because isolated from support by colleagues, increased workload and loss of work-life balance.

My Way Code offers these users all of this learning and support and can be provided by workplace as benefit whilst offering feel-good factor of donated licences helping others (CSR)

But also provides the opportunity to build on increase in use of tech

Globally, consumers spent $1.5bn in Health and Fitness apps in 2019. All ages have had to adapt to using technology - a digital leap has already occurred. The edTech and mHealth Markets rapid growth rate make it an ideal opportunity for reach, accessiblity and cost.

DATA STRATEGY

As a program borne out of real life mental health professional practice where the confidentiality and safety of data (content) is of utmost importance, My Way Code is focused on building our technology on these fundamentals for all data and use of AI.

BUT FIRST the quality of AI, machine learning, natural language processing, measuring outcomes in any technology is only as ethical, unbiased, inclusive and accessible as the quality of the data.

Data is at the heart of our mission so that:

  • Our customers get the best data feedback - not just trackers but useful, intuitive, pattern noticing information and become prosumers in the development of the program
  • We get immediate insights for KPI’s and what the customers like best so we can innovate and enhance our program
  • We get accurate, actual, and reliable data to report the real outcomes of what users choose to enhance their health and lives so we can inform policy makers where citizens need the most help
  • We get to measure our impact on society: improvement in health and wellbeing, disruption of the market, environmental and sustainability, value creation, growth opportunities, for us and the local economy.

So our technology platform's foundations need to be built from the ground up using the principles of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) data so that we can achieve all we want to for the user, the program and wider society.

Only 32% of digital health for mental health meet minimum quality thresholds

Quality Assurance

My Way Code is acutely aware of the amount of apps claiming to help mental health that fall way below standards of Clinical/Professional Assurance, Data & Privacy, and Usability & Accessibility.

We will seek to exceed all standards for health apps, data governance and security from the outset. We will work with Dutch national organisations like Orcha Health BV, GGZ Appwijzer Mindex, National eHealth Living Lab (NeLL) and work towards the relevant EU ISO Standards for Data Privacy.
